E1 zone, Hamilton: Existing Rural Commercial (E1) Zone
Section 12.6 (12.6.1 Permitted Uses, 12.6.2 Prohibited Uses, 12.6.3 Regulations, 12.6.4 Kennel Regulations) of the City of Hamilton Zoning By-law 05-200, as amended by 15-173, 18-219, 19-062, 21-070, 21-189.
A rural zone that recognizes commercial uses legally in place before the by-law was passed, plus a few agricultural businesses and kennels, with no intention of adding new properties to it.

Other provisions in this section
- Zone recognizes legally existing commercial uses only; it is not intended that properties be added to the E1 Zone after enactment. Special Exceptions on some E1 properties identify the specific Existing Use(s) permitted.
- Planting strip: a minimum 3.0 m planting strip must be provided and maintained abutting a street, except at points of ingress and egress (s. 12.6.3 g).
- Outdoor storage (general): only for retail sales display area, and set back at least 2.0 m from any flankage lot line or front lot line (s. 12.6.3 i).
- Accessory buildings: per Sections 4.8 and 4.8.2 of the By-law (s. 12.6.3 j).
- Parking: per Section 5 of the By-law; a Farm Product Supply Dealer is instead subject to Section 5.6 c) vii) (s. 12.6.3 k).
- Kennel: buildings or structures associated with a kennel must be set back at least 60.0 m from any lot line, and no domestic animals may be kept in any open area within 60 m of any lot line (s. 12.6.4 b).
- Kennel: accessory retail sales area may not exceed 20% of the total gross floor area (s. 12.6.4 d).
- Kennel: outdoor storage not permitted in any front yard or flankage yard; must be at least 20.0 m from any lot line and screened by a visual barrier per Section 4.19 (s. 12.6.4 e).
- Kennel: accessory buildings per Section 4.8; parking per Section 5, except a Kennel is subject to Section 5.6 c) vii) (s. 12.6.4 f, g).
- Vacuum clause (Section 4.12 d), general provisions): any lot in the Rural Zones, and any building or structure on it existing on the effective date of the By-law, is deemed to comply with required setbacks, front yard, flankage yard, rear yard, lot width, lot area and building height. The 2.0 ha minimum lot area for a Kennel applies notwithstanding that clause.
- Prohibited in Vulnerable Area 1 (Schedule F Figures 5.0-5.3): Part V EPA waste disposal sites involving mine tailings storage/treatment/discharge, land farming of petroleum refining waste, PCB waste storage, untreated septage application to land, liquid waste injection into a well, hazardous waste storage; hazardous waste management facility; waste management facility; salt storage facility of 5,000 tonnes or more; snow storage facility larger than 1 ha; motor vehicle service station; motor vehicle collision repair establishment (s. 12.6.2 a).
- Prohibited in Vulnerable Area 2 (Schedule F Figures 5.0-5.3): Part V EPA waste disposal sites involving injection of liquid waste into a well; waste disposal facility (s. 12.6.2 b).
- Prohibited in Vulnerable Area 3 (Schedule F Figure 5.0): Part V EPA waste disposal sites involving application of untreated septage to land (s. 12.6.2 c).
- Notwithstanding the definition of Agriculture, a single detached farm dwelling, residential care facility and farm labour residence are prohibited (s. 12.6.2 d).
