RE zone, Caledon: Estate Residential
Section 6 – Residential Zones, Tables 6.1 and 6.2 (Subsections 6.2 and 6.3) of the Town of Caledon Zoning By-law 2006-50.
A large-lot estate residential zone for single detached houses on lots of at least 0.8 hectares, with generous setbacks and at least half the lot kept as landscaped area.

Other provisions in this section
- Minimum backyard amenity area: 56 m² (Table 6.2).
- Minimum driveway setback: 4.5 m; must comply with Section 5.2.14, Driveway Provisions for Residential Dwellings (Table 6.2 footnote 14).
- Minimum parking space setback: 10 m (Table 6.2).
- All uses subject to General Provisions (Section 4) and Parking, Loading & Delivery Standards (Section 5) per Section 6.1.
- Additional residential units (Section 6.4, Table 6.3, RE/RR column): maximum 3 ARUs (may be limited by provincial plans/Special Policy Areas per 6.4.2); minimum 1 parking space per ARU (none required if no parking required for main dwelling); existing zone building area and landscaping requirements apply; minimum 1.2 m unobstructed path from street to ARU entrance.
- Detached additional residential units (Table 6.4, RE/RR column): max 1 detached ARU containing up to 2 dwelling units; located in any yard other than the front yard; existing backyard amenity area requirement applies; max floor area no greater than ground floor area of main dwelling and not exceeding 110 m² GFA; max height no taller than main dwelling or zone requirement (10.5 m), whichever is less; rooftop amenity areas not permitted; balconies up to 1.0 m above grade permitted but may not encroach into a required yard; min 3 m separation from main dwelling; nearest wall max 10 m from main dwelling; min interior side yard 3 m, min rear yard 4.5 m, exterior side yard per zone (18 m); uncovered steps and eaves encroachments per Table 4.2.
- Section 6.4.7: where a lawfully existing (as of October 28, 2025) detached garage or accessory building has setbacks/separation less than Tables 6.3/6.4 require, a detached ARU may use that building's side yard, rear yard and separation.
- ARUs must comply with Minimum Distance Separation (MDS) formulae (6.4.3) and conservation authority regulations in regulated areas (6.4.4, Section 2.9).
- Where a conflict exists with provincial plans (2024 PPS, Oak Ridges Moraine, Greenbelt, Niagara Escarpment) or Bolton Special Policy Area, those prevail (6.4.2).
